TIP OF THE DAY

Easy DIY Drawer Organizer

My kitchen drawers used to be an absolute wreck; pans and dishes crammed in however they’d fit. And nearly every time I needed something, it was always at the bottom of the drawer. My solution was to cut a piece of 1/8-in. pegboard to the size of the drawer bottom and attach dowels using screws from underneath. Now my pans are organized and easy to access.

Steam-Clean Your Oven

Traditional oven cleaners can contain some pretty nasty chemicals and create toxic fumes. A simple, more natural way for cleaning your oven is to place an oven-safe pot or bowl filled with water inside. Set your oven to 450 degrees for 20 to 60 minutes to loosen dirt and grease with the steam. Once your oven is cool, wipe off the condensation and the grease will come with it. If stubborn spots persist, scrub with a paste of baking soda and lemon or vinegar.

Double-Duty Furniture and Storage

Look for furniture that has multiple functions, like a storage bench at the end of your bed for bulky bags and purses, a full-length mirror that houses jewelry and accessories, or a bedframe with built-in drawers.

Make a Dimple

Drill bits have a tendency to wander when you first start drilling. To prevent this, measure and mark where you want the hole and then use a center punch and hammer to create a small dimple. This gives the tip of your drill bit a place to ride in as you begin to drill.
